How to map your data columns when importing data
Once your file is uploaded, you’ll need to map each column to the correct fields so Sloc can build your market structure.
Upload screen overview
After selecting your file, you’ll see the Upload market data screen.
This has two main sections:
Left - column mapping
Right - live data preview
As you map columns, the preview updates in real time.
Step 1 - Map your columns
For each column in your data (to the left):
Use the dropdown to the right to assign what it represents
Leave it empty to skip the column
Mapping categories
Columns are grouped into:
Geography hierarchy - e.g. Country → Region → City
Product hierarchy - e.g. Category → Sub-category
Key identifiers
Company name
Metric (e.g. revenue, volume)
You can map multiple columns as metrics if needed.
Step 2 - Configure hierarchy columns
When mapping geography or product columns:
You can optionally select an aggregate value
e.g. “Total”, “All regions”
This ensures:
Aggregate rows are excluded from calculations
No double counting occurs
Step 3 - Configure the company column
When mapping the Company name column, additional options appear:
Total / aggregate value
“Others” value
Company groups (to merge duplicates or variations)
This helps clean and standardise your dataset before import.
Step 4 - Check the preview
Use the preview panel to validate your structure.
You can switch between:
Geography hierarchy
Product hierarchy
Companies
Check that:
Hierarchies look correct
No unexpected totals are included
Company names are clean and consistent
Step 5 - Import your data
Once everything looks correct:
Click Import data
Your data will be processed and added to your project.
